Liquid Beauty Series 1 by Jorge Parra

I have always been obsessed with water and all the magic fluidity, energy and sensuality it brings into life. This series is a never-ending process, as I keep exploring and capturing water in its many visual and spiritual manifestations.

A New Meter by Cori Matyas

An anemometer indicates speed as wind moves the cups and the vane marks wind direction. Rain gauges measure water. Here, I physically and conceptually change and combine the routines of these instruments. The pinna in the ears of the wind vane receive the vibrations carried by the air and condense them into water that drips into the cups, which are turned upwards to collect water instead of wind. They have their own ridges to shape the water. Making the collectors with clay adds weight and grounds them to Earth. The vane and funnels rotate about the pole, revealing the patterns of energy that surround us.

At Crescent Beach 1 by Nava Ottenberg

Ever since Nava Ottenberg was a child, she has loved staring for hours at the ocean. A painting, for her, is a moment captured, an unfinished story. She focuses on painting water because it has such power and every moment brings a change of color and texture. Nava considers painting an act of preserving moments of beauty and contemplation.

Core Melt: Anthropocene by Cori Matyas

When ice forms, it preserves bubbles of air and objects embedded within the layers to record Earth’s climatological history. In this piece, plastic tubes hold ice cubes whose colors represent warm or cool, or wet or dry periods and each contains an object. The bottom (oldest) layer pre-dates humans, containing only natural objects. As humans appear and technology develops, mass-printed knowledge is embedded. In the upper layers, clear cubes contain words cut from plastic bags and food wrappers. These plastic-filled cubes also spill out onto the floor as a reminder that when the last glacier melts, plastic artifacts will remain to tell the story of modern humans and how we polluted the Earth.
