Biography

Charles Osaro (b. March 4, 1998). is a Lagos‐based contemporary visual artist whose work breathes life into the space between memory and imagination. From sketching on classroom margins to mastering the delicate interplay of light and shadow at Yaba College of Technology, his practice has grown into a celebration of human spirit and divine inspiration. Driven by an almost sacred joy in creation, Osaro’s paintings explore the textures of emotion each brushstroke is a testament to his belief that art is both gift and gratitude. His pieces have garnered international acclaim, earning awards and gracing exhibitions such as “Passion” at Noma Gallery in Ocala, Florida; “Faces and Figures” at Laslaguna Gallery in California; and “The Art of Self‐Regulation” at Holy Art Gallery in London. Through Figuration, forms, muted tension, and symbolic contrasts he invites viewers into his world.

Artist Statement

My paintings draw from both personal and collective experiences. I work with real life situations,moments you and I can relate to by reflecting the passage of time and the shifting seasons of human existence. Through my choice of subject matter, I aim to project shared emotions, thoughts, and beliefs that mirror our present reality. Each piece represents an ongoing search for meaning, informed by my environment and shaped by themes such as politics, society, healing, and identity. Music, film, conversations, and my state of mind also play a significant role in driving my artistic practice. As an artist, I believe it is my responsibility to mirror the times and seasons I inhabit. The human figure for me, serves as a powerful vessel, each one carrying its own story. By capturing these figures, I seek to reveal the emotional depth and vulnerability that define our experiences as we navigate life. Experimentation is essential to my creative process. I believe true artistic strength lies in the freedom to explore, to discover new techniques and perspectives that give form to evolving ideas. Each day brings new challenges, and these lived moments naturally shape the outcome of my work. Ultimately, my works offers a journey through time, viewed through the intertwined lenses of the past, the present, and the future.
