Malawian Contemporary Artist

Meet Clement Kam’mwamba Jr.

Clement Kam’mwamba Jr. (b. 2000, Blantyre, Malawi) is a contemporary multidisciplinary artist known for his evocative portraiture that merges grayscale skin tones with bold, vibrant colors. His work explores themes of identity, resilience, and the enduring bonds that tie us together.

Clement’s commitment to his craft is further evidenced by his dedication to engaging with his community, where he draws inspiration and collaboration from the people around him. His work is not just a reflection of his artistic vision but a celebration of the bonds that unite us all.

In 2017, Clement completed a one-month arts program at Otis College of Art and Design. He furthered his education at Watson Institute, graduating in 2020. Among his notable achievements, Clement contributed to creating murals at the Mercy James Centre for Pediatric Surgery and Intensive Care in Malawi, a hospital built by Madonna, as well as other prominent mural projects across the country.

Apart from traditional paintings, Clement also does digital painting. He has worked with the Children’s National Hospital Global Health Institute Pilot Award to design illustrations for a booklet focused on follow-up care education, as well as collaborating with organizations such as Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Trust and other local and international organizations.

As he continues to evolve as an artist, Clement remains focused on exploring new narratives and pushing the boundaries of his creativity, inviting viewers to connect with his art on a profound level.
